Canning Supplies

Hi,

Those of you with pressure canners may or may not be aware of the Redback Trading Company in Victoria.

I have been dealing with this company for about 12 months now and thought you would all like to have some feedback regarding them.
The Redback Trading Company has an expanding product base and of particular interest to me has been the original Ball Preserving jars and replacement lids.

These jars are just wonderful for pressure canning and I have found them to be just the right size for our family.

Their Service is great, Ian is very helpful and the products arrive to my address well packed, in good condition as promptly as Australia Post is able to deliver them.

If you haven’t had a look at his site yet then by all means do so when the time comes and you require some good quality jars and lids for starters. http://www.redbacktrading.com.au/

Cheers

Hi Kathleen,

I've had great service from Ian at Redback as well and highly recommend them.

I buy the jars, lids and I got a set of tools...

The Presto canner is cheaper than I've seen elsewhere in Aus as well.

:D

Vicki,

I just recently bougtha Boiling Water bath Canner Kit. I do have a vacola and several large stock pots but this BWB is just great for doing small batches with. The pot is black enamal and it has a rack for easy removel of the full boiling jars as well.

Am very pleased with it and can see many uses for the pot other than as a BWB. :)

Need to order me some smaller jars now as I would like them for chunky mushroom topping and also caramalized onion topping. (both are great to heat and pop on top of steaks or to add to steamed or baked whole potatoes, cover with cheese and grill for a quick lunch). Yum!

I have also been thinking of buying the 2 litre jars for storage.

Hi Vicki,

I have recently bought the Boiling Water Bath kit. It is a black enamel pot and is fantastic. Has a good wire rack inside it for lifting out the hot boiling jars in one foul swoop. I can see many other uses for the pot other than as a BWB.

Already have a vacola however this is going to great for small batches.

Have been considering buying some of the 2litre jars for storage and am also going to order some of the smaller jars for toppings such as sliced mushrooms and caramelized onions which are great to either pop on steaks or to add to baked/steamed whole potatoes, cover with grated cheese and grill for a quick lunch. Yum!

Kathleen :)

Hi Kathleen,

Yes Ian said he got them in but I thought with the vacola I couldn't see a reason... so what sort of things are you thinking of using the pot for?

It's getting close to dinner time and you've made my mouth water :D

Cheers

Well I am short on stock pots myself so the pot will make a good stock pot I think.
It is wide so I think it wil be good for thickening when cooking.
It will also be easier for me to set up and use instead of the vacola when I just want to put up say a small batch of apples or other fruit. The vacola seems to take quite awhile to heat up to the right temperature.

Maybe this is because my unit was an old second hand one then againmaybe it is just me being impatient, who knows? Either way I am very happy with my purchase.
