Hair Clippers

Since meeting DH I have always cut his hair. His mum did it before me. Only time he ever went to a barber was on our wedding day..... Since we also aquired a dog five years ago I always wanted to be able to do both, man and dog with clippers as getting dogs clipped usually cost about $40 each.

For ages I had been searching for the right clippers and had heard many times that Wahl hair clippers were really great. I finally got one today and just did all three dogs in the time it would have nornally taken one to do. It was $130 but worth every cent. Got previous ones from Big W and they all were no good as they kept getting stuck in the hair. Also pulled the two boys' hair as well.

So I am sold on Wahl. I love them. I can also do cattle and horses with these ones and they are also cordless if you want them that way. I usually use the cord though. My two boys need a haircut before school goes back so can't wait to use them again. It is also a really nice fit for the hand.

That is interesting Damaris, can't say I have ever heard of that brand myself.

I also do Dh's hair and have done for several years now. I hate doing it (although it doesn't take long really).

Thanks kindly for the feedback, when I am next in need of new clippers I shall look out for them.

They're interesting --I'm another home barber man myself too --I've always had a number 1 or 2 depending on the weather . I used to do mine standing out near the compost heap --instant recycling !!

But this year I haven't had a haircut since summer and I look like old father time ,--very long hair and very, very grey , almost snowy !! Hasn't been this long in 35 years and all my friends call me the old hippy !! Catherine likes it too , though its getting to be a pain in the garden --taken to wearing headbands --don't know whether I look like an urban guerilla or a mystic zen gardener --lol ,lol

And nearly summer , I can get the floral jungle print shirts out and really spook the locals !!!

My DH never cuts his hair and it doesn't grow, strangest hair I've ever seen. It's very fine and longish but just doesn't grow And the last few years he stopped clipping his beard and that doesn't seem to be growing a lot either, although it's long but much thinner than when I met him.

DH has a number 1 year round but has taken to wearing beanies all winter. Actually it was so cold last night (no fire either) that he said when we finish this house we should move North!

I started wearing a beanie sort of hat myself a lot this year... one of those Nepalese ones with the ear covers and pom pom on top, I certainly looked a tad feral gadding about the yard feeding stock

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cuts their hubby's hair! I've done it for about 5-6 years now and he also used to get his hair cut by his Mum before that. She used to use scissors. When I met him I used scissors too and it wasn't for a year or more of hour-long haircuts until I realised I was essentially giving him a no2 manually, LOL. So now he just has a no2 everytime he wants a haircut, a no0 to tidy the back and sideburns, and I tidy around the ears and forehead with scissors. I've pretty much got my technique down and after it has grown back a bit it looks pretty good I think. Luckily he's one of those people who suit short-short hair.

I've taken to cutting my own hair too in the past couple of years. I always wear it up when I leave the house, so I figured it wouldn't make much of a difference. I wet the hair first. I cut it in a dead straight line and get hubby to quickly tidy up the back a bit if I can't reach. Takes a bit of work to get right but does the trick of getting rid of any knottyness on the ends. Remember though that once dry, your hair often shortens, so don't cut it too short while wet. This year I got bored and gave myself a fringe too - also pretty blunt, straight-lined. Doesn't look too bad actually - I got quite a few compliments after I did it and people kept saying 'Wow, you did it yourself?!'

For those with longish hair, a knitted headband is really handy to keep your hair out of your face. I just made one over the weekend and it is awesome! It cost me pretty much nothing but a couple nights of work, because my Mum had a bag of yarn she no longer wanted. I am in no way gifted with knitting and this was pretty much my first ever successful knitting project, so give it a go!

Hi Ash,

I like it, it'd be good to go over your ears in winter as well (I get really cold ears )... I will definitely keep this in mind for trying to do one come autumn.
