Agee or simular lids

Postby Glyn » Tue Feb 16, 2010 3:26 pm

I have luckily been given a whole stack of Agee improved Utility preserving jars. The screw on bands and lids however are a bit old , does any one know where I can buy replacements - preferably on line as we are a bit out of the way. I had a friend send some perfit lids from New Zealand but they are 2mm too large, - does anyone need them?

Oh No! I too got some Agee Jars. Lovely things they are.... but a curse too! You cannot buy new Agee lids anywhere that I have found. The New Zealand company confirmed to me that their Agee lids fit all Agee Jars, except for those Agee Jars made in Australia. D'oh. So, please, please, if you do find a supplier, I would be greatful if you let me know. Sorry I can't be of more help... but misery loves company!

Hi have been looking for lids and bands for the Australian made Agee jars for some time can not find any of similar size any where the closest seems to be a French made Le Pafit (82mm) but can not get these in Australia either. If you have Agee Specials the standard wide mouth Mason lids will fit. As for the Perfit seal lids if you still have them I can us them on some NZ made Agee jars I have.

Below is a matrix of lids sizes I have found thru my own research.

56 70 78 80 82 83 85 86 100 110
Agee Australian X
Agee NZ X
Kerr X X
Ball X X
GEM X
Bernardin X X
Kilner DualPurpose X X
Kilner Rayware X
LE PARFAIT Familia Wiss X X X
Leifheit X
Perfit seal X

Hope this helps you all
Thanks Paul

Hi Paul-
They weigh 570gm so postage is $10.80 plus $2 for post bag thingy. How does that suit?

Love this place! Can find all these odd bits of info.

Yesterday my mum gave me some jars she thought were fowlers vacola that used to belong to my Nana. Turns out they are 'Improved Agee Utility'. Bummer to find out you can't buy new lids for them.

Is the 'Improved Agee Utility' jar the 'Agee Australian'?

I was excited at the thought of using some more of my Nana's jars. Might hunt down a loose fitting lid and use them for storing rice etc....Any other ideas?

Hi Hay hay,
I have the improved utility ones... yep, they are the Australian ones! My bands and lids that came with my jars do still work (but sometimes its a bit hit and miss if they seal is not quite right)... so perhaps dry storage is best. If it was for long storage of dry goods, perhaps using the Fowlers Cellophane covers might work?
Bye for now,
H.
